Learning how to become an influencer has always been the hardest starting point for an aspiring content creator. We always see creators “at it”, but don’t understand how they got there in the first place.
As a beginner in crafting a meaningful social media career, it can be tough deciphering what the best first steps are to take. By knowing how much struggle and dedication it takes to become a successful influencer, we want to help you with that.
In this blog post on how to become an influencer as a beginner, we will talk about the three basics of building an influencer career that you should master. Happy reading!
How to become an influencer as a beginner
Create great content
This is the first and most important thing to master if you want to become an influencer. You need to continuously create great content!
What does this mean?
It means you need to know your niche, the best topics for it, and the best post format you should publish.
Publishing content around the things you love on Instagram is a bonafide way to ensure avoiding burnout and gathering an interested audience.

Grow an audience
Creating great content is useless without an audience that will follow and engage with it. Growing an audience is the second step you should take to become a successful content creator.
Doing so is not an easy task. You need to know who your audience is.
How to know your audience?
First, think about your ideal audience member. Basically, who are you creating content for? How do you imagine that person looks, what do they like, what is their age, gender, location?
Once you have an approximate idea of what your ideal audience member is, you should go and check your Instagram insights. Does your target match the existing demographics of people who already follow you?
If the answer is no, then you need to check whether your content is appropriate for the audience you want to attract. Again, if the answer is no, then you need to go back to step one and rethink what your content should look like based on your ideal audience member.

Monetize
Getting collaborations doesn’t make you automatically an influencer. Instead, collaborations come as a result of tremendous work you put in nurturing your influencer account.
To land your first collaboration, you need to have succeeded at fulfilling the first two things mentioned, aka creating great content and growing your audience. By doing this, you’re laying down the groundwork and making sure you are getting noticed by brands.
There are plenty of reasons why some creators aren’t getting chosen for brand campaigns. We covered some of the reasons in this blog post here. Make sure to read it and see if anything resonates with you.
However, if you’re starting or have been doing this for some time now and still can’t pinpoint the exact reason that you’re not getting anywhere, then it is time to get structured help by growth specialists.
It all comes down to this - do you want to land your first brand collabs and start getting paid? Vimma helps you find all the influencer opportunities out there and ramp up your income.
